Day 7: Sunday 29/04/2012

A very special boy called Brandon Dorman McGahan dropped into the hospital this morning. Like Sergio, Brandon was a premature TOF baby who spent most of the first two of his life in this hospital. His mother, Lori shared their remarkable story with us while Sergio was asleep. Brandon now  lives a very active life thanks to the skill of Dr. Jennings.   Today had even more pleasant surprises in store for Sergio as in the late afternoon he was treated to some amazing Irish dancing by young Ciara. A large crowd of nurses quickly formed outside Sergio’s room as they witnessed...

Day 6: Saturday 28/04/2012

Today Sergio was able to fully recharge his batteries as no tests were carried out today. His relatives from Co Clare came over to visit in the morning and Sergio was in good form all day long. The hospital here are organising a play volunteer to come and spend some time with Sergio on a regular basis before his operation next Wednesday. I’m glad to report that he is settled in nicely into a new routine here in PICU and is starting to recognise the nurses on duty with plenty of broad smiles for them. Hoy, Sergio recargo completamente sus baterías, ya que no tenia ningun test que...

Day 5: Friday 27/04/2012

No sign of the fever today thankfully as Sergio woke up in good spirits; bright and early at 6am. Though there was no time to waste as he had a renal ultrasound appointment to attend. The scan only took a few minutes and pictures were taken of his kidneys and bladder. By midday Sergio had exhausted himself out from bouncing up and down in his bed so he decided that a good old afternoon nap was in order. Evening time was dedicated to play time and Sergio was more than happy to oblige. No hay señales de  fiebre  hoy gracias a Dios,  Sergio se despertó de buen humor, muy temprano a las 6...

Day 4: Thursday 26/04/2012

During the night Sergio pulled out his trachea and the emergency alarm was sounded. Thankfully all the doctors stormed into his room and quickly replaced the trachea back in. Poor Sergio got a fright indeed. Everyone here is saying that Sergio is very active and is constantly moving around in his bed. Some bad news in the afternoon; lab results came back and showed that Sergio has a fever. A decision was then made to postpone tomorrow’s Foker operation until next Wednesday instead. Durante la noche, Sergio tiro de su tráquea y la alarma de emergencia sono. Afortunadamente, todos los...

Day 3: Wednesday 25/04/2012

The schedule today was rather busy for Sergio. It started early with a Picc line needing to be inserted into his arm (he pulled it out afterwards!). Then it was straight off to another floor for a Cat scan of the brain. Dr Jennings was waiting to perform a gap study in another room. We were allowed to stay in the room to witness  this procedure. Thankfully the results showed that the esophageal gap size has remained the same since the last study that was carried out in Dublin. Sergio went for an early sleep after listening to some Irish music on the tin whistle. We must enjoy and cherish...
